I have always enjoyed organizing, in fact I seemed to spend an awful lot of time doing it throughout the year. I considered myself a decluttering expert as well. My determination to organize and declutter always went into overdrive when difficult situations occurred in my life. I always felt a strong desire to “get my house in order” when other parts of my life felt out of control. No matter how hard I worked, I never felt done.
In the fall of 2015 we moved from a 1200 square foot home into a 2200 square foot home. Almost immediately my husband, two small children and I began to acquire more stuff. We had empty rooms! Let’s fill them! We finally have space for the kids to have an art center/music center/indoor gym! It was exhilarating, but also expensive and exhausting. By Christmas of 2016 I was feeling overwhelmed. Looking around on Christmas morning as my otherwise kind and grateful children tore through their gifts with reckless abandon I was on the verge of a panic attack as I wondered where we were going to put all of these items.
I downloaded Marie Kondo’s book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up that evening and started reading. I had heard of the book before and planned to read it “when I had the time” but suddenly I had to get my house in order.
Once I read the book, I realized that not only was I approaching the idea of tidying all wrong, but that there was an effective way to tidy your home once and for all. If your home is truly organized, it will not be necessary to constantly reorganize your items. What a revelation! Many of us are using methods such as decluttering room by room or removing a few items a day because that is what we have been told to do. But what research supports this method? The KonMari approach is a shift in your mindset that will break the cycle of constant reorganization and put your home in order for good.
Completing the KonMari process in our home brought big changes and lots of joy to every member of our family. I am deeply passionate about this method and the results that can be achieved. I would love to share this process with you. Please contact me for more information.
